About the role:

Think Active’s trustees are all volunteers. They oversee everything Think Active does, ensuring Think Active meets its charitable objectives and fulfils its legal obligations and its responsibilities to funders. The Chief Executive and Exec Team are responsible for Think Active’s day to day running.

Trustee responsibilities

  • Developing and reviewing our strategy and performance.
  • Making sure we incorporate our vision, mission and values in everything we do.
  • Bringing insights, learning and practices from other sectors and organisations to support decision
  • Ensuring that Think Active is adopting best practice regarding Equality, Diversity and inclusion,
  • Governance, Legal Requirements, Safeguarding, Welfare and any other current agendas affecting our
  • Maintaining proper financial oversight to make sure we are thinking about our present and future
    sustainability and using our resources appropriately.
  • Considering and managing the wider risks associated with our operations.
  • Safeguarding Think Active’s interests and reputation.
  • Understanding and promoting Think Active’s activities and interests.

Attributes we desire:

  • Specific skills and experience in areas such as finance, HR, sport, digital, health, Education and
  • Experience of charities on a similar scale to Think Active.
  • Ability to act as a ‘critical friend’ to Think Active.
  • Ability to engage with new networks in the wider Midlands and nationally.

  • You do not need to have previous board experience to apply.
  • We will provide training to ensure you understand your role and responsibilities. Reasonable
    expenses will be reimbursed.

Base Location: The main headquarters of the Charity is in Leamington Spa although some of the work involves being located across Coventry, Solihull & Warwickshire. Trustees are able to attend board meetings virtually or in person. 

Salary: Voluntary (reasonable expenses will be reimbursed)


The Think Active Board has approximately 7 board members plus co-opted members.
It typically meets 6 times a year. Meetings are usually a hybrid of virtual and in person.

Board meetings are usually held between 4pm – 6pm with the in-person venue being at the Think Active HQ in Leamington.
The Board has several subcommittees; Audit, Governance and Finance that typically meets 6 times per year, Ad hoc HR and Nominations Committee.

Trustees are expected to contribute to one or more of these committees and/or other Board responsibilities such as Safeguarding and Welfare, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and others in pursuit of the delivery of our strategy.

Trustees are also expected to attend events, to support the Think Active team and to gain a good knowledge of the organisation.
Trustees of Think Active are a charity trustee and as such are required to discharge the charitable objectives of the organisation: in receiving assets from funders, safeguarding them, and applying them for a charitable purpose according to the wishes of the donor.
The Board typically has an ‘Away Day’ held annually in December.

Terms: An initial term is of 3 years
