Physical Activity & Talking Therapies

Part of our work at Think Active is to support health & social care professionals to integrate conversations about physical activity into their work with patients & clients.

Our Training and Advocacy Lead, Sarah Taylor, had a mammoth week of training this month, with four sessions delivered to over 115 NHS Talking Therapies practitioners & managers across Coventry, Solihull & Warwickshire.

Some of the key features of the training were looking at the building physical activity into everyday life, and framing conversations around physical activity in healthcare settings.

When asked about their main takeaways from the session, feedback included:

‘That activity is different to exercise and it’s easier to fit moderate activities into your day than it seems!’

The huge variety of resources to support patients becoming more active’

‘I feel more able/empowered/permission given to talk to people about exercise. That I don’t need to be a doctor or personal trainer.’

The importance of activity for individuals with long term health conditions, also the organisations and support available to signpost clients to.’

That being active doesn’t have to be huge changes, just making small changes and encouraging the people we work with (and ourselves!) with this in mind is really helpful.’
