Kit for Communities

At Think Active, we believe in the power of sport, physical activity and movement to transform lives and keep people living well. We know that for some, access to appropriate and comfortable activewear is preventing them from being active. That’s where Kit for Communities comes in.

Through Kit for Communities, Think Active collects unwanted and unused activewear from organisations and gives it a second life. We use donated clothing to create kit bags for people in our communities who may otherwise struggle to access activewear, whilst also reducing clothing waste.

The kit bags have a selection of clothing items in them such as t-shirts, joggers, shorts and jumpers.

We distributed the kit bags through local community organisations and groups, helping them reach people who can benefit from them most.

Solving two problems with one simple idea

Removing a barrier to being active – For some people, not having suitable activewear can be a barrier to getting active. Having the right kit can help people feel more comfortable, confident and ready to be more active.

Giving activewear a second life – Unwanted clothing doesn’t need to end up in landfill. By donating your unwanted activewear, you can help reduce textile waste.

Our Impact

Since April 2023, we have donated over 1200 bags of activewear to groups and organisations within Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire.

Some of the feedback from those who have been supported by this initiative includes:

“The clothing and trainers made a massive difference to both me and my daughter. It definitely helped mentally; we are motivated to exercise more.”

“The kit helped me feel I didn’t stand out when I went to the gym. ”

“With the cost-of-living crisis sportswear is at the bottom of most people’s list of things they need. The sportswear was really appreciated.”

By repurposing unwanted activewear, we’re also reducing textile waste and the need for new production. In 2024–25, we estimate that our kit bag donations helped avoid an estimated 18,000kg of CO₂ emissions.
