Trustees  – Think Active  

About the role:

Think Active’s trustees are all volunteers. They oversee everything Think Active does, ensuring Think Active meets its charitable objectives and fulfils its legal obligations and its responsibilities to funders. The Chief Executive and Exec Team are responsible for Think Active’s day to day running.

Trustee responsibilities

  • Developing and reviewing our strategy and performance.
  • Making sure we incorporate our vision, mission and values in everything we do.
  • Bringing insights, learning and practices from other sectors and organisations to support decision
    making.
  • Ensuring that Think Active is adopting best practice regarding Equality, Diversity and inclusion,
  • Governance, Legal Requirements, Safeguarding, Welfare and any other current agendas affecting our
    sector.
  • Maintaining proper financial oversight to make sure we are thinking about our present and future
    sustainability and using our resources appropriately.
  • Considering and managing the wider risks associated with our operations.
  • Safeguarding Think Active’s interests and reputation.
  • Understanding and promoting Think Active’s activities and interests.

Attributes we desire

  • Specific skills and experience in areas such as finance, HR, sport, digital, health, Education and
    community.
  • Experience of charities on a similar scale to Think Active.
  • Ability to act as a ‘critical friend’ to Think Active.
  • Ability to engage with new networks in the wider Midlands and nationally.

You do not need to have previous board experience to apply.
We will provide training to ensure you understand your role and responsibilities. Reasonable
expenses will be reimbursed.

Base Location: The main headquarters of the Charity is in Leamington Spa although some of the work involves being located across Coventry, Solihull & Warwickshire. Trustees are able to attend board meetings virtually or in person. 

Salary: Voluntary (reasonable expenses will be reimbursed)

Requirements:

The Think Active Board has approximately 7 board members plus co-opted members.
It typically meets 6 times a year. Meetings are usually a hybrid of virtual and in person.

Board meetings are usually held between 4pm – 6pm with the in-person venue being at the Think Active HQ in Leamington.
The Board has several subcommittees; Audit, Governance and Finance that typically meets 6 times per year, Ad hoc HR and Nominations Committee.

Trustees are expected to contribute to one or more of these committees and/or other Board responsibilities such as Safeguarding and Welfare, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and others in pursuit of the delivery of our strategy.

Trustees are also expected to attend events, to support the Think Active team and to gain a good knowledge of the organisation.
Trustees of Think Active are a charity trustee and as such are required to discharge the charitable objectives of the organisation: in receiving assets from funders, safeguarding them, and applying them for a charitable purpose according to the wishes of the donor.
The Board typically has an ‘Away Day’ held annually in December.

Terms: An initial term is of 3 years

Partnership Manager 

About the role
At the heart of our work is our vision to ‘#WeThinkActive – Everyone in Coventry, Solihull & Warwickshire to benefit from movement and enjoy sport and physical activity in safe and thriving communities’ and our mission, ‘We will use the power and potential of sport and physical activity to enable future generations to have healthier and more prosperous lives’. 

These roles are made possible by our Sport England System Partner funding and the Partnership Manager will have the integrity to make best use of public funding locally and to challenge the norm in line with our culture and values. 

The Partnership Manager role balances being immersed in a geographical place; developing and nurturing relationships with partners from a range of sectors to maximise the role that sport and physical activity can play and the opportunities that collaborative working can have to support those people and communities who face the greatest inequalities and who the most inactive. The other part of the role requires leading and evolving one of our six strategic objectives on behalf of Think Active. We aspire to be humble in our acknowledgement of what has already been done and aspirational in the impact we believe these roles and these ojectives can have locally. The role encourages and supports leadership and a determination to make a difference and requires a team player who is willing to contribute to the wider team objectives and  support your colleagues with spirit and determination. 

This post will join our existing 4 Partnership Managers to lead on one of our strategic objectives and to support our place based work, leading on Think Active’s behalf on our work in either Coventry, Solihull or Warwickshire. 

Base Location: The main headquarters of the Charity is in Leamington Spa although some of the work involves being located across Coventry, Solihull & Warwickshire. We have a blended approach of home-based working, office-based working and travelling to and attending meetings as required. The post holder is expected to visit clubs and groups at the times they operate which will mean a adopt a flexible approach to their work. 

Salary: from £28,524 + travel expenses + pension. 

Working Pattern: 37 hours per week (with options for part time or job share possible) 

Contract type: Permanent (subject to successfully passing probation) 

Annual Leave: entitlement is 27 days (FT) plus public holidays 

About you
We are looking for a driven partnership minded practitioner who is a competent project manager. We are looking for someone who aligns with our values and who brings themselves to the team and challenges us. 

Your ability to work in collaboratively will mean that you will be able to create and work within internal multidisciplinary teams as well as with a range of external partners from a range of sectors. We are looking for someone who has influencing and networking skills to work with local stakeholders and engage more and different partners and to advocate the benefit of physical activity on residents’ physical and mental health. 

There will be considerable scope for you add to the resources available to you by through external grants and through our work with Sport England, as such you will have experience in project management and will be able to apply for grants, forecast, manage and report on budgets. You will be capable in managing project teams and delivering results on time.

Volunteer Opportunity  – Equality, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Reference Group
