Home / Gen22
Initiative:

As part of the legacy of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Think Active are supporting young people aged 16 to 24 to gain employability skills through a local volunteering and training programme.

Gen22  is for young people who might otherwise struggle to access Games related opportunities as they are facing inequalities or barriers, for example lack of confidence,  being a young carer or young parent, having a criminal record, young people from Lower socio-economic groups and culturally diverse communities and disabled young people.

Whilst the project has three strands of Creative, Digital and Physical Activity and Wellbeing we are focusing volunteering opportunities on those that connect to Physical Activity and Wellbeing (including Sport).

Young people taking part in the programme will be expected to complete 30 volunteering hours with their chosen organisation between now and the 31st March 2024. Funding is available to support young people with training and development opportunities to support them to completed their placement.

Get involved:

There are currently two ways of getting involved:

Groups and Organisations working with Young People aged 16 – 24

We are currently looking for organisations who are interested in identifying, nominating and supporting young people to access Gen 22.

£200 is available for nominating/supporting organisations per young person.  This can be put towards staff capacity to support the young person to register for Gen 22, identify a placement and support them to complete the programme. The funding can also be put towards any additional training or support the young person may need.
