Initiative:

Gen22

As part of the legacy of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Think Active are supporting young people aged 16 to 24 to gain employability skills through a local volunteering and training programme.

The Gen22 Programme is for young people who might otherwise struggle to access Games related opportunities.  This could include lacking confidence, being a young carer or young parent, or having a criminal record. They could even have challenging financial circumstances, or be from a marginalised community. However, they can’t be currently in full time employment.

Whilst the project has three strands of Creative, Digital and Physical Activity and Wellbeing we are focusing volunteering opportunities on those that connect to Physical Activity and Wellbeing (including Sport).

Young people taking part in the programme will be expected to complete 30 volunteering hours with their chosen organisation between now and the 31st March 2024. They will be able to access training opportunities in areas of work which interest them as well as the option to access further training from partners such as Severn Trent.

Young people will be able to build their portfolio throughout their journey and will be certificated on completion.

Think Active will be on hand to see how it is going and listen to your feedback to create a blueprint for what creates positive experiences for young people like you!
