Moving more is one of the best things we can do for our physical and mental wellbeing. Whether it’s a brisk walk, dancing in the kitchen, gardening or taking the stairs, every bit of movement adds up.
The latest UK Chief Medical Officers’ (CMO) guidance reinforces some simple but powerful messages:
- Any activity is better than none – even small amounts of movement can make a real difference
- Move more, sit less – break up long periods of sitting whenever you can. If you work remotely, check out our tips about Staying Active When Working From Home
- Build strength and balance at least twice a week – this helps support healthy ageing, improves everyday function and helps you stay active for longer. For tips on ways to build strength and balance, take a look at the tips on our Stronger Every Day page
- Aim for 150 minutes of moderate activity each week (or 75 minutes of vigorous activity) – but remember, doing something is always better than doing nothing.
